Control and Sensors – Year 6

June 19th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

This unit covers many aspects of the Year 6 NC Programme of Study for control and monitoring. The students learn to program traffic lights using a push sensor to start the sequences for a pelican crossing. Motion, sound and other sensors will be part of the session. (Parts of the above are dependent on pupils having undertaken the basic programming in the year 5 sessions at the CLC). Lego’s pre-constructed models can be incorporated in the session.

Some pre project work will be completed at school before the students arrive at the CLC. The unit is delivered at the CLC over the course of a day.

The project is delivered by Chris Orme, one of the CLC project developers. School Staff will be expected to attend and play a part in the activities, building their capacity to deliver this unit in school when circumstances permit.

Aim: To produce a 3D animation of 45 to 60 seconds length and audio

Objectives:

· Build team work

· Improve storytelling

· Improve art skills

· Improve ICT skills

· Improve language skills

Outline of project

A Curriculum developer meets with the class teacher to outline the scope of the project and the responsibilities of the school and the CLC. This will be followed by a two hour session in school giving an introduction to animation to the pupils and outlining the project to them. The Pupils produce stage scenery, props, story outline/storyboard and script over two week period in school. (Class needs to be split into groups of 4 or 5 pupils)

The class then comes to CLC for a whole day of animation filming. Films will be sent to the school the following week so pupils can rehearse the script for the film. CLC staff will then come to school to record the audio with each group individually this takes approximately 45 minutes for each group. (Audio could be recorded in a language other then English)

Take a look at this link from Teacher TV to see how it can fit into the curriculum.

Calling all Primary Schools

June 19th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

The City Learning Centre is a HARINGEY resource dedicated to raising achievement through the innovative use of ICT.

We are keen to increase the number of primary schools in Haringey who use the CLC and to introduce a number of new projects. In order to establish exactly what the schools would like to do here we have created an on-line survey which we would like every primary school headteacher or ICT coordinator to complete.

Click Here to complete the Survey

The advantage of this for us is to inform our planning and to try to ensure that all school who wish to use us have an opportunity to do so.

The initial survey will close on the 9th July 2007 at 4:30pm.

We hope that this gives you enough time to complete the survey and for us to get back to schools to encourage bookings to occur throughout the year and be made as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. This website will remain open all year round to encourage staff to comment on the projects that we run and open up our projects to all the primary staff.  Poster advertising the Primary Schools Blog    Please place a copy of the poster in noticeboards in the Staff Room.

Digital Photography and Photoshop

June 19th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

We have been very sucessful in our Digital Imaging projects using Photoshop Elements across Keystage 2. The projects have varied from :

  • Teaching pupils to use digital cameras and then using this skill as a focus on the seasons and enhancing the photographs with poems. (This project takes approx 2 days, 1 for photography and learning to use the cameras and one to use Photoshop Elements, manipulate the pictures and add poems)
  • In science exploring light and shadows and then the students taking photographs and producing worksheets to illustrate their understanding of the topic. (1 day)
  • Portraits project which involves an introduction to using the camera, taking full and profile photos of each pupil in the class and then a one day course at the CLC to produce, Silhouettes, Electronic Postcards, Manipulate photos and apply effects and create a Andy Warhol composition.
  • Photoshop Elements course resulting in designs for mousemats and mugs which can be sublimation printed at a cost to the school.
  • Comic projects using students own photos in ComicLife for photo stories.

There are many other projects that can be set up using digital imaging including animation and digital literacy projects. If you are interested in any of these projects then please contact the CLC.
